BREAKAWAY’S BE LIKE MIKE ART CONTEST

THE CONTEST IS OVER. But WOW, you guys are good. We've got lots of awesome entries to sort through, and we'll announce the winner online soon and a little later in a print issue.
If you're a fan of Breakaway's stunning photo illustrations and sizzling spreads, thank Michael Heath, the mag's senior art director and designer. This month, we’re kicking off our Be Like Mike! Art Contest in his honor. You can read up on the man himself in our September 2008 print issue. Here are the contest details:
WHAT WE WANT: One entry from any of the categories listed below.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Submit within the body of your e-mail the aperture, shutter speed and location or name of subject. If an individual(s) is identifiable, collect his or her contact information. If you're chosen as a winner, any identifiable individuals will be required to sign the photo release we'll provide you with.
Landscape: A photo of natural or manmade scenes.
Portrait: A photo highlighting one person in an environmental or studio setting.
Photojournalism: A photo documenting an event, scene or moment.
ILLUSTRATION: Submit within the body of your e-mail the medium you worked in.
Abstract: Art that doesn’t depict existing objects, but instead uses color and form in a nonrepresentational manner.
Representational: Art that depicts something that is easily recognized.
DESIGN: Submit within the body of your e-mail the name of the design software and fonts used.
T-shirt: A design utilizing type, color and original graphics. Download a T-shirt template on which to situate your design. (Your design must be completely original; no use of stock art or the like is allowed.) You do NOT need to resize this image. Just create you design on this template and send it back in.
WHAT YOU GET:
• $200, $100 and $50 respectively for first-, second- and third-place winners in each subcategory.
• Winners’ creations will be featured in an upcoming issue of Breakaway.
Additional Instructions:
• IMPORTANT: PAY ATTENTION AND FOLLOW THESE RESOLUTION GUIDELINES. Your initial entry must be submitted as a JPG with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. EXCEPT T-SHIRT DESIGN. Just create your t-shirt design on the downloadable template and send it back in its original size. (If you’re selected as a winner, we’ll contact you for a high-resolution version.)
• Entries must be submitted via e-mail to Breakaway@Family.org with the subject line “I Want to Be Like Mike!”
• If your entry requires a photo release(s), send the form(s) ASAP to:

• One entry per person, period.
• All entries must be original and created within the last year.
• All entries must be postmarked or e-mailed by Oct. 31, 2008.
CLARIFICATIONS
As the questions come in, here's where we'll post the answers to clarify the rules.
• Yes, you must be a teenager to enter.
• Yes, you can change the color of the T-shirt to whatever color you'd like.
• The subject matter of a T-shirt design is up to you. Same for an illustration or photograph within the different categories. This is your chance to be creative.
• Make sure to follow all the guidelines for the category you're entering, especially pixel dimensions for photographs.
• You do not need to resize the t-shirt template file dimensions.
• One entry per person, period. Choose your best category and go with it.
