THE BREAKAWAY GEOCACHING CHALLENGE
Get going geocaching. Enter our contest. Win a cool prize. No experience necessary.

Geocaching is a super-hip sport that started back in 2000. It’s a mash-up between a game, Google and GPS—the Internet and global positioning systems. The March 2008 print issue of Breakaway takes you into the action-packed world of this adventure craze. Here’s our contest to get you going.

Geocaching is continuously evolving. There are already lots of variants. One is called waymarking. In waymarking you don't find a cache at a specific location—the location is the cache.

Think you can find a few locations? Get going, and enter our waymarking contest.

WHAT YOU DO
E-mail photos of yourself from at least three of the following types of landmarks—oh, and send the coordinates, too. You don't necessarily need a GPS unit. Just snap the picture and look up the coordinates later at Google Earth or a similar mapping application on the Web. E-mail your entry to breakaway@family.org.

1. a covered bridge
2. a war memorial or a soldier's grave in a cemetery
3. the Breakaway office at Focus on the Family headquarters.
4. a Veterans of Foreign Wars or American Legion post (Photo must include a member of the post.)
5. a "Welcome to . . ." state sign (usually found at state borders)
6. a mountaintop
7. a building taller than 30 stories
8. a giant version of something (giant rocking chair, gorilla statue, world’s largest prairie dog, water tower disguised as a piece of fruit, etc.)
9. the Panama Canal
10. Bonus: (No coordinates needed.) Get your picture taken with a member of our military in uniform. Be sure to thank him or her for their service.

HOW YOU WIN
Be the first to e-mail your photos and coordinates from at least three of the different types of landmark. Or send us shots from all 10. Even if you’re not first, we’ll come up with a special prize for you.

WHAT YOU WIN
Grand Prize: A signed copy of the new book American Heroes by Oliver North and edited by Breakaway contributor Chuck Holton. A copy of Chuck’s book A More Elite Soldier. Several cool CDs.
