QUESTION CONFORMITY

I appreciate the words Bob used in response to Fab Saiz’s questions [March]. It’s nice to see that people actually question the different temptations of this world in order to understand the path that’s been laid out before us. Society does seem to drag more and more teens down with it, but the fact that some are questioning the ways others tell us how to act and think shows that they’re beginning to come around. Conformism is the way of the past. The Lord is the way to the future and all things that are good.

POWER OVER PORN

I’ve had a battle with porn and asked a friend to help out. He introduced me to x3watch, some accountability software that Breakaway guys need to know about it. This software really helps. It sends information about the sites you visit to your accountability partner, allowing him to help you through your problem. It helps me to know that someone will know about the sites I visit, and makes me accountable for myself. The link is www.x3watch.com.

Editor’s Note: Way to go, R.S.! And thanks for letting us know about x3watch. This looks like an incredible tool for beating porn. The software is free, and there’s no hiding from your accountability partner what you’re checking out online. Stripping away the secrets is a huge step in conquering porn and practicing purity.

LANCELOT LUSTS

I am pleased that you wrote an article on how to get to know a girl, and how the chivalric code can be applied to communicating with girls today [“Lancelot Lives,” February]. But I had a slight problem with your article. The title implies that Lancelot is an example of a chivalrous, highly moral knight, but you failed to remember that in the legend, Lancelot committed adultery with Guinevere, King Arthur’s wife. Due to Lancelot’s human failings, he and Guinevere were one of the many factors that helped start the domino effect of the fall of power in Camelot. So, while Lancelot may have been a good knight in other aspects, such as battle, he certainly isn’t the poster boy for sexual purity and doesn’t need to be mentioned as a noble knight. Percival, who is known as the Pure, is a much better choice of knight when it comes to purity in any form.

Editor’s Note: Whoops. We didn’t check into our King Arthur lore deep enough. Maybe Lancelot could have benefited from our article.

SOUND CHECK

I’d like to respond to Fab Saiz’s letter [March] criticizing the “High Voltage” letters sent in by others. People should learn to listen to the Holy Spirit and use some common sense. However, Bob Smithouser was pointing out that there’s nothing wrong with getting a second opinion on issues like whether or not they should purchase a certain CD, particularly a secular CD with an unclear message. God wants us to communicate with each other and help each other out, not make fun of their questions. My advice: Don’t waste time asking about something you already know is wrong or controversial. Be respectful and supportive of others’ questions.

NEW MAN

I have received Breakaway for a long time but only recently started to make sense of what it means and follow it. I’ve been brought up in a Christian environment, and I thought that I was a great Christian — until recently. I realized I’m nowhere near the mark God wants me to be. When I look back, I’m ashamed of what I was. I decided that I have had enough of that life. I started to sincerely read my Bible and pray. I asked God for forgiveness, and I can feel a lot of change in me. Every day I keep trying to learn the things that God wants me to do.
Your mag showed me a lot about the reality of God. I used to think reading the Bible was just a waste of time. I thought that it was just stories about people and nothing else and that God can’t talk through the Bible to us. But once I started reading, it was like I could hear God telling me that what I’m doing is not right and that I should give my life to Him. It was very hard to leave some of the habits I had formed, but now with God’s help I am slowly getting rid of them. Please pray for me.

Editor’s Note: You got it, Neil! We’re thrilled that you’ve allowed God to take the steering wheel in your life. Everyone can remember this: God knows we’re going to fail Him, and that’s why we need Him so badly. Accepting Christ as your Savior doesn’t mean you can sin all you want, and it doesn’t mean you have to use your own strength to be perfect, either. It does mean you can trust Him to remove the dirt in your life and shape you into a new man. He’s stronger than every obstacle you face.
