HOW DO I CHOOSE A CAREER?
A reader's got his future on his mind. Mike advises.

by Michael Ross

HEY MIKE! Even though I’m only 15, high school will be over before I know it. In three years I’ll leave home and start my own life. Here’s what scares me: I’m clueless about what career to choose. What can I do now to prepare for a successful future?

—M.C., Indianapolis

Check out Psalm 145: 18-19: “The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.”

Considering this passage, what makes some people successful in life, while others seem to flounder? Answer: You’ll find your unique place in this world—and, ultimately, true fulfillment—if you fit yourself into what God wants for you rather than what you want for yourself.

God created each of us with the abilities and talents to serve Him in very specific and significant ways. Successful Christians know this—and they’ve found their place within the body. They are guided by a clear personal vision of what Christ wants them to accomplish in life.

With this in mind, M.C., here’s what I suggest you do:

• Pick a profession that’s in tune with God’s will for your life by taking your dreams and desires to God and trusting Him with the outcome. Is the Lord directing your steps? Keep in mind that your plans have no strength if they’re not from God.

• Consult with your parents and other trusted Christian people. Seriously consider their counsel as you plot your course. Their input can be valuable in finding the life pursuit that will best shape the man inside you. logo
