IT’S OK TO BE GIRL-LESS
According to this girl, "It's a big turnoff when a guy goes from girlfriend to girlfriend."

by Michael Ross

HEY MIKE! Thanks for giving great advice. I'm a high school senior as well as a girl who enjoys reading Breakaway. (Your magazine is awesome!) Lately I've seen some “HEY MIKE!” questions from guys who want girlfriends. I think it’s time I give my brothers in Christ a wake-up call. May I share my perspective?

— Sarah, Indianapolis

You got it, Sarah! Read closely, guys. Here’s some solid female advice—from the heart:

First, it’s OK to not have a girlfriend! In fact, it’s a big turnoff when a guy goes from girlfriend to girlfriend. (It makes you look shallow.)

Second, many girls are just looking for friendship. In fact, a close friendship with the opposite sex will teach you a lot about what girls find attractive in guys. But understand this: Not every friendship has to turn into a serious, romantic relationship. Focus on God, school and healthy friendships first, and the chore of finding a girlfriend will take care of itself.

One last thing to J.G. in Palm Beach, Fla. [October 2006 issue]: If you are consistently losing girl friends because you're trying too hard to date them, you're not doing yourself a favor. Girls talk, and if your current romantic interest realizes you've asked out five of her friends, she's going to feel second-rate. We want to be loved, and we want guys to think we're one-in-a-million, not a dime-per-dozen catch.

That's all for now. Thanks, Mike, for letting me share my thoughts. logo
