CHRISTIAN POWER RANGERS
Is the power of Christ living in you?

by Lane Palmer

"It's morphin' time!"

No, this is not a misspelled drug reference. It was the battle cry of the superpopular Power Rangers of the 1990s (and who are making quite the comeback these days as well). You have to admit, it would be pretty awesome to be able to “morph” into a secret person with superpowers and put the smackdown on evil minions everywhere.

For those of you who abstained from Power Ranger fever, “morphin' ” was short for morphing, which is taken from metamorphosis, which basically means to transform from one state to another. In the Power Rangers’ case, they transformed from normal, everyday teens to crazy good fighters of evil with martial arts skills approaching those of Chuck Norris’.

I have a sneaking suspicion that deep down in all of us there was at least a spark of desire to be like one of the Power Rangers. I mean, who wouldn't want to at least have a couple days a year where you and your friends are called out of your normal-everyday-quasi-boring life, given superpowers and defeat viciously vile villains in valiant ways? Where do I sign up?

Guess what. You ARE a Power Ranger. I'm not kidding. Not in some Japanese-inspired Saturday-afternoon entertainment way. In fact, not in any physical way at all. You’re a spiritual power ranger with spiritual powers that range way beyond anything our tight-suited friends ever dreamed of. Here's what I'm talking about: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

We're talking about morphin' here, because the moment you trusted Christ as your only hope of salvation, you were transformed into a brand new person with the power of the living God living inside you. In fact, this is a better way to look at the word Christian, because that word normally makes people think of a religion. In truth, that word should be put in the same category of metamorphosis! Want further proof? Sure!

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, ”Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

In reply Jesus declared, ”I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

“How can a man be born when he is old?“ Nicodemus asked. “‘Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, ”I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.“ (John 3:1-6).

See what I mean? As a Christian you are reborn into a new life with the supernatural power of God at your disposal to fight Satan, the most evil being in the universe. On the outside a Christian might seem just like anyone else, but when you live your life in obedience to Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit, the spiritual world sees you as a Power Ranger who is kicking forked tails and taking names for the Book of Life!

So what are you waiting for? You’ve already been “morphed,” so join your Christian friends and pray, share your faith and resist sin with the energy and urgency of a Power Ranger.
